Speightstown can arguably be seen as one of the most overlooked gems in Barbados embedded in rich historic cultural architecture; with easy access to the beach along the West coast. There are lots of up and coming exciting restaurants with authentically exquisite cuisine, and fantastic views of the shore. One restaurant in particular recently caught my eye. After seeing countless pop ups on my Instagram feed of the mouthwatering Tagilere Board from Ninos by the Sea, there was no doubt in my mind I had to try it!
Upon entering the restaurant from the street level, you are greeted by the friendly staff and seated on the top floor, which has gorgeous views of the ocean and the jetty.
The Tagilere Board
The Tagilere Board was made up of an assortment of freshly cured meats paired with cheeses, chutney, olives, and breads for two. There was Proscuito Parma paired with Mango Ginger Stilton, Chorizo paired with Pepper Jack, Mortadello paired with Pomegranate Goat Cheese, and Salami paired with Tomato Basil Feta. The lethal meat-cheese combination which stole my heart, was the Proscuito Parma and Mango Ginger Stilton Cheese – sweet, creamy, savory – a deadly potion of orgasmic flavours. The balls of bread melt at the mercy to your knife – oh so tender and fluffy! This platter deserved 5 stars, as a winning appetizer to open up the palette for an Italian feast.
For the main … I indulged in pizza of course! The Seafood and Diavola pizzas had my eyes watering with joy.
Fire brick oven pizza topped with pesto, cherry tomatoes, lobster, shrimp, and arugu -ooh-la la! The rich layer of the pesto as the base created explosions of full flavours in every bite. Juicy, succulent pieces of shrimp and lobster mixed with mozzarella cheese and tomatoes on a crispy yet chewy crust, fulfills every girl’s dream who idolizes a fantastic pizza!
Caramelized onions, sausage and jalapenos create the Diavola Pizza. The sweetness of the red onions mixed with the spices from the sausage and jalapenos is made for those who like an extra kick to their pizza. This crust was also crispy yet chewy with a creamy tomato base.
The view from Ninos by the Sea speaks for itself. God’s natural beauty. A breathtaking sunset which paints the romantic ambience for two.
From the two pizzas I tried, I would have to say the Seafood Pizza is hands down my no.1 choice.
The pesto infused with the heavenly seafood chunks and sweet cherry tomatoes won me over. I would recommend both pizzas depending on your preference of meats but seafood takes the gold medal!
